Well we made it to Durango safe and sound. It was about 5:30pm when we got here so we just did a basic setup for the night. We left Kevin and Romana's Tuesday morning about 10:00am and made it to Kingman, AZ where we spent the night a campgrounds then headed out at 7:00am the next morning. When we left California, one of the landing gear legs wouldn't raise so we had to use a jack and the put it up by hand. Don't know what's wrong but I think a sheer pin on the drive mechanism broke because you can turn the shaft by hand and the leg goes up and down. I don't think it should turn by hand. I'll see what I can do today to fix it. We're right on the Animas River and the river is running like crazy. They say it's from all the snow melt and run off. The elevation here is about 6700 ft and the peaks around are about 10,000 - 12,000 ft. There's still snow on most of the high peaks and according to the local news, some passes are not even cleared yet. When we got up this morning it was 35°. Quite a change from what we're used too.
We plan to get settled and look around the next couple days so we can get oriented with the Durango area. We already found the Wal*Mart Supercenter. One thing we found is we have no T-Mobile cell phone coverage here at the campgrounds but we do in town so communications will be somewhat limited. We do have a good internet connection so email and IM are still available. Here's a picture of the mountains Judy took when we stopped in Cortez. That is in the direction we're headed. We'll get some more pictures to post soon.
