We got good news from Tom yesterday evening. Mom had her surgery and all went well. The only damage they found was she had broken the ball off in her hip joint but nothing else. That was good news. It could have been worse. She'll be in the hospital a few days and then go into assisted care for rehabilitation for about 6 weeks. After that we'll see what happens. She may have a major lifestyle change coming. Injuries like this are very serious for Seniors.
Today Judy works by herself cleaning and I work in the office. She goes in at 9:00 and me at 3:00. That's OK with me. As you probably know, I hate cleaning. The only thing that concerns me is answering the phones. I'm confident I can learn the computer program but my hearing is so bad now that I can't hear well at all on the phone. I probably should get hearing aids but good ones are so expensive that I'll have to make due without for now.
Dharma is starting to worry us a lot. She's been having a lot of difficulty getting up and down the steps and has fallen a couple times. She's been favoring her left hind leg a lot and standing on 3 legs. Don't know if she hurt herself on one of those falls. Judy has increased her hip medicine dosage for a few days to see if that will help. I guess we're all getting old and life will go on.
We are going to see if we can start getting out and seeing the sights (other than Wal*Mart)around here more. I was looking on the map and it looks like Purgatory Ski Resort is only 10-15 miles north of here so we're going to check that out. Also there are some private lakes around here to fish and since it costs $61 for an out of state fishing license, we'll try some of them instead. We also want to ride the narrow gauge railroad to Silverton from Durango. We hear and see it come by here everyday puffing black smoke and blowing it's steam whistle as it struggles to pull it's load up the mountain. The elevation here is 6750 ft and it's over 9100 ft in Silverton, which is only 39 mi. away, so it's quite a pull uphill. The mountains here are beautiful. We have a real high one right behind us on the other side of the river. Reed (one of the young guys who's full time here and lives here) told us it's about 11,000 ft high. It's weird to watch the clouds form from nowhere right over the top of that mountain and then disappear just as fast. I might be able to live here if it wasn't for that "white stuff" that appears on the ground (and deep) every winter.
