Happy Father's Day to all the fathers out there!! I'm not even going to mention the weather today, because we heard what the temperature is in Phoenix & that we should not be complaining about the 30's here in the morning - enough said!
I have to tell you about my "unique" experience yesterday. We were suppose to be off in the morning & orienting to the campground registration/ store/gift shop in the afternoon. Around 630am, I was out walking Dharma, Louise (she & her husband Ronnie work in the cafe in the morning for breakfast) came running over & said that the other gal who normally worked was off & there was no one to help. Louise normally takes the orders, Ronnie cooks the eggs, bacon, sausage, etc. Jane (the other gal) cooks the pancakes. I should mention that pancakes are free for breakfast. She asked me to help & of course, I said yes, not knowing what I was going to be getting into. To make a long story short, I headed over & they showed me how to use the commercial grill & I was off and running. Let me just say that it is a tad easier to make pancakes for a family than a crowd! I must have made/flipped well over 150 pancakes, set up plates to go out from 730a-1030a. It was crazy. Louise let me know later in the day that we had filled 220 orders. That had been there busiest day all season - goes to figure! Actually is was fun - different kind of stress but Louise & Ronnie were great to work with.
Spent the afternoon trying to learn this Campground Management program, wait on customers in the office/store. This registration may be the death of me. I know it is only the second time we have oriented, but it is very confusing & very fast paced. Bob is even overwhelmed! There are so many steps & you are dealing with cash, credit cards & all types of changes & discounts. I may end up with a failing grade on the job. I think I like flipping pancakes better!
We are off to orientation for cleaning in about an hour. We will see what that is all about. They have cabins as well as RV & tent sites, so after someone checks out you have to clean either the cabin & site or the RV tent sites for the next campers.
We have Monday & Tuesday off & may take the narrow gage train ride from Durango to Silverton one of the days. That should be fun. We still have no cell phone coverage here at the facility. We had to head into Durango the other day & pick up a prepaid all tell cell phone to use for emergencies. I'm not allowed to use it - I was told by the "boss" that I talk too long!
One last little note. Reid(staff) & Bob ended up cleaning up garbage & bear "poop" near the dumpster yesterday morning. Apparently we had a visitor dining late in the evening or early morning. I'm sure you can well imagine the colorful language from Bob while he was doing the little chore! Have a great day everyone.
