HIGH LIGHT OF THE DAY

Sunday morning Barb and I headed out for a little walk around the neighborhood. Neither of us had walked in quite some time and the "boys" were going to browse through the Sunday paper, so we thought "why not". The morning was sunny and warm, so on went the hiking shoes, we grabbed some water and off we went. What was going to be a short stroll, ended up being a little less than 4 miles. We headed down the road to Old Duck Hole Road - got to love some of the names of the roads here on Cape Cod. This road parallels a portion of a 6.4 acre marsh between Orleans and Nauset Beach on the Atlantic Ocean. To me it was a lovely tree lined road with large cedar shingled homes on the opposite side of the marsh. To Barbara it is a "spooky" road because of the abundance of thick foliage and trees. From there, we wound through some small lanes to Pochet Road which ends at a "private" area of homes adjacent to the marsh and the ocean. We eventually came across a wooden bridge and board walk that crossed Pochet Inlet and the marsh. This trail leads pass the "overland vehicle trail" - where vehicles, with permits, can drive to a portion the spit on Nauset Beach. The sand dunes and beach were straight ahead. By now, it was probably 10:30am and there were already families set up on the beach with chairs, picnic supplies, etc - ready for a beautiful day at the beach. We strolled on the beach for awhile before heading back. I just love the ocean and would be content wandering on the beach for hours; listening to the waves breaking on the shore, looking for shells and listening to the sea gulls squawking. It is so relaxing. However, time was passing and it was almost lunch time, so we headed back. Crossing the dunes and the marsh on our way back, I could see some of the homes we had passed when we walked across the wooden bridge and boardwalk. Some of the small homes, in the distance, are right on the edge of the marsh and Barbara mentioned that they were in danger of being washed away in the next big storm.
Barbara made a wonderful chicken salad for lunch. Robert watched bits and pieces of the Indianapolis 500 in between helping David take trash to the dump. We spent the afternoon relaxing, watching Aiden practice riding his new bike and playing in the "kiddie" pool and Conner chasing birds in the back yard. David cooked spare ribs on the grill for dinner. They were delicious along with the fresh sweet corn. Evening was soon upon us, the little one's headed to bed, David headed up to get on his oxygen - evenings are difficult for him, and after saying good night to Barbara, we headed to the 5th wheel for the night. Our visit here will soon be coming to an end and we will be on the road again. It will be difficult to leave.
