Here it is Saturday already, where does the time go! We woke up to sunny, slightly cloudy skies this morning. We had another busy day yesterday, however, David and I had a opportunity to spend a little time in the morning enjoying the sunshine out on the deck. It is such a peaceful spot - absolutely no traffic noise. We sat watching the cardinals, and various types of finch coming to the bird feeders. It is possible to sit out there any time of the day and listen to the birds chirping in the trees and bushes. Barbara and David had an appointment in Hyannis, Mass. at 10:30 that morning and invited us to ride along. We left around 9:45 and it took around 45 minutes to get there on route 6 (the Mid-Cape Highway) - the main highway on the cape. We headed out to do a little sight seeing while they were in their meeting. We walked down to the John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum on Main Street. It is a small museum dedicated to JFK's days on Cape Cod from childhood to his adult years. It includes numerous photographs of he and his family and shows why it was his oasis and why he valued his times on the Cape so deeply even while he was president. We also visited the Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame and Museum in the basement of the building. It gave the history of baseball on Cape Cod over the years.

From there, we walked along Main Street, checking out the various stores and restaurants. This is a quaint old cape town with narrow streets and older buildings. I loved this clock that we passed on Main Street. We walked past an old Baptist Church and with a cemetery behind it. When we checked out the dates on some of the old grave stones, we found that most were dated back to 1815 and the early eighteen hundreds. We were surprised to see that a majority of the residents that were buried there lived into their 70's and even 90's. We met up with Barbara and David around 12:30 and took a driving tour around some other areas of Hyannis. Barbara drove over - as close as the public is allowed - to the Kennedy Compound on the ocean.

The compound is not accessible to the public, but we got close enough to get this picture of the top of the main home in the complex. Many members of the Kennedy family have homes within this area on the ocean. This was the home of Joseph and Rose and all of their children and this was where President Kennedy came frequently to escape from the public eye and to have some privacy with his family. From there, we drove around the area a little and headed to Home Depot to pick up a new lawn mower. We headed back to Orleans in the early afternoon for a little lunch and R&R. In no time flat Barbara, Cassie (their daughter) and I were off to pick up the 2 grand kiddos at day care and heading to the grocery store. The next thing we knew, it was 7pm and we were sitting down to burgers on the grill and fresh corn on the cob - where did the day go! Barbara and David are babysitting today, so Robert and I may be on our own sight seeing. That is a scary thought - these little narrow roads wind though the cape with no rime or reason to us and every time we go out somewhere, these guys take a different route, so we are always confused. Should be an interesting experience, should we choose to accept the independent touring challenge!
