Workamping at Moose Pass

We thought that we should try to catch you up on our comings and goings since we arrived at the Spruce Moose Chalets about a mile north of Moose Pass, Alaska. Gary and Treva were here when we arrived around 1230pm and it was a pleasure to finally meet them in person, after communicating with them over the internet for so long. Treva had fixed lunch and we went over some questions Bob and I had regarding duties and responsibilities for our summer stay. Treva took me on a tour of Stellar Jay (the smaller chalet) and Wild Rose (the larger chalet). They are both wonderfully cozy and comfortable feeling - much nicer than anything I had anticipated. Both chalets had been occupied over the weekend, so after a quick orientation and stripping all the beds, I was off and running. Gary and Treva left around 3pm, to attend a relatives graduation, and we were on our own. I swear that I did laundry - non stop until 1030pm that night and all the next day. I must have done 25-30 loads of laundry.Luckily each chalet has it's own washer and dryer. Tuesday evening, we took a walk to Upper Trail Lake, which is just across the highway from the chalets. There was still some ice on the lake, however we have been watching it melt and sink daily. It is amazing how quickly the area changes. When we arrived on Monday afternoon and parked the 5th wheel, we were surrounded by "sticks" - bare trees. Everyday we have watched them go from bare trees to trees with buds, to trees with leaves.
By Wednesday afternoon, we had both chalets cleaned and ready to go. Thank goodness Bob helped me with windows. We took a quick ride into Moose Pass to set up our mail delivery and drove around the little town, which included the school - must be K thru 12, the local grocery store, the lodge, post office, and the church and a few houses along the highway. Wednesday afternoon, we started staining the railing on the Wild Rose
Chalet. The weather was beautiful - sunny and warm and we were enjoying being outside. Thursday morning, we woke up to fog
that totally surrounded us. We could not see the lake and the mountains. The weather cleared up, the sun came out and we continued staining until we ran out of stain. Gary is suppose to bring us more from Anchorage on Saturday. I worked in the flower bed Thursday afternoon - and loved it - while Bob caught up on some chores around the outside of the 5th wheel. One little aside, we have found that there is no TV or radio reception here, and the Bob cannot get the Internet to work in the 5th wheel, so we are pretty isolated from the world. We had not expected that. As you can imaging, it is pretty quiet here. The only wild life we have seen, is a mother Raven -
who has a nest in one of the tall pines near our 5th wheel - and who is not happy with us invading her domain and disturbing her babies and a couple of rabbits.
Today, we woke up to cloudy skies and it has rained all day. It was too miserable to work outside, so I finally had an opportunity to do some catching up cleaning in the 5th wheel. Everything inside is covered with this grey dust that we picked up along our travels. Since the weather was so lousy, we decided to take a ride into Seward to pick up groceries. Seward is about 30 miles south of Moose Pass on the Kenai Peninsula. It is right on the Ocean and because of that, there are lots of boats and boating excursions to the nearby fjords (don't ask me what they are I just saw the word), glaciers and charter fishing. About half the cruise ships that come to Alaska dock in Seward so tourism is real big here along with the PRICES. We plan on returning to Seward later in the summer when the weather is nicer so we can sight see and enjoy the town more.
