DAY 26 OF OUR ALASKAN ADVENTURES

Today we decided it was time to stock up on groceries before we went to Moose Pass and didn't have a grocery store available. Sooo, it was off to the old favorite - Wal Mart. The only problem was, the Wal Mart we went to was not a Super Center so they didn't have groceries. There is supposed to be another one in Anchorage but when we asked somebody at the store where we were, they told us it was under construction and not open yet. We went out to the truck and checked the POI's on our GPS for groceries and found a Safeway. We selected the store and followed the GPS's directions but when we got there we couldn't find it. We drove around the shopping center where we were until we realized that the Carr's there was a Safeway owned store so in we went. Boy did we get a shock. Things were so expensive that we cut our list down considerably. As an example, a head of leaf lettuce Judy buys in AZ for .69 to .79 was $2.50. After we got the the groceries back to the RV and put away, we decided to check out Sam's club for prices. The prices there were not too bad and some even seemed cheaper than AZ. Next time we'll go there first.
Later in the day we decided to take a drive around Anchorage. We ended up driving down by the Ted Stevens International Airport which is very near Cook Inlet. There is a nice park there overlooking the Inlet and the views were great. You could see downtown Anchorage from a high bluff overlooking Cook Inlet. There were a lot of people enjoying the beautiful day hiking and biking on the path system along the water. While we were checking out the view, 3 large planes took off from the airport and passed right over our heads. If you click on the plane and look closely, you'll see it's from Korean Airlines. We are planning on leaving in the morning for Moose Pass. First we'll stop at Wal Mart and fill a couple prescriptions we forgot to get today. Gary and Treva, the owners of Spruce Moose Chalets, are planning on meeting us there tomorrow. We ended the day going out to dinner for Mother's Day so Judy didn't have to cook. Our location is the same as yesterday.
