Things have started out today on a brighter note. The manager here at the campgrounds let us borrow her car to go to the grocery store. We stopped at the Ford dealer to see what the status of the truck was and THEY THINK THEY HAVE IF FIXED!!!! The service manager just needs to give it a good test drive and maybe this afternoon we can go get it. If that happens, we'll be heading for Haines Junction and Destruction Bay tomorrow. We probably have about four days left to reach Moose Pass. We'll probably stop in Anchorage for a day or two to chill out and unwind from this ordeal. I guess it could have been worse. The whole Yukon Territory only has about 32,714 people and we broke down in the capital, Whitehorse, a town of 24,473. The next biggest town is Dawson City at 1,879 which we weren't going through and then Watson Lake at 1,596 which we passed through 275 miles before our breakdown. The pictures

we've included today, Bob took last night at 10:00 PM without a flash. You see the moon rising over the motel and it's still almost totally light. Bob is checking the air in the trailer tires and I'm doing a last load of laundry. We are feeling more optimistic today. The thought of staying here for another week without transportation was some what depressing. It does sound like we are in for the most challenging part of our trip from here to Anchorage. EVERYONE has been warning us that the road from here on is treacherous and the average mph are around 30 in quite a few of the areas. I am a little concerned about the truck now, because from Whitehorse to Anchorage, there is no
city large enough to have a Ford dealer!! Everyone keep your fingers crossed for us, that this will be our one and only break down.
We had a little bit of rain yesterday and the sky

is beginning to cloud up today so we may get another shower. At least it is not snow and the weather has been very warm for this area and this time of year. We haven't even run our furnace since we've been in the campground. We have a little electric heater we're run at night and it's kept it about 60° in the 5th wheel.
When we went to get groceries, we took these pictures of the Yukon River South of Whitehorse. It's not real visible but the ice there is still about 1 1/2 feet thick. There is some open water around the outer edges.

It's a litttle hard to see but if you click on the picture, you'll get a larger version that's easier to see. Just got a call from Nick at the Ford dealer and they found a rear axle seal leaking so he'll have them take care of that this evening and the truck will be ready to roll in the morning. Don't want to set ourselves up for further trouble if avoidable.

Good luck and have a safe trip tomorrow. I am enjoying following your posts as we are planning on goiing to Alaska next year but probably not until around Mid June so hopefully not as cold as you have had it. Or at least the snow should be gone.
I second the wish for Good Luck! We also have enjoyed reading of your adventures and trials. Of course, now there is positively no way I'll get Dave to Alaska unless we fly....good thing we can go vicariously thru you guys! paige
But, what was the problem with the truck, all the gearheads will want to know? Dave
