Since Durango is limited in some shopping areas, we headed to Farmington, New Mexico to try to pick up some items that are not available in this area. Farmington is only approximately 62 miles from where we are working, but a world away in terrain. We headed out of the mountains and into an area reminiscent of northern Arizona. The land is much flatter, more arid and the trees are predominately scrub juniper - at least what we saw. We did not even take any pictures along the way.
One main advantage of heading to New Mexico is the price of diesel fuel. As soon as we crossed the border from Colorado, the price of gas dropped significantly. Diesel fuel in Aztec, a little town just before Farmington, was $4.48/gal versus the lowest price in Durango at $$4.75/gal. Of course, Bob had just filled up both the tanks a few days ago and we did not need any fuel. It would probably be worth the trip over to save $.27/gal.
We stopped at Sam's Club and picked up a few items on our list - managed to get in and out without going overboard as we usually do. It did take a tremendous amount of self control. I'm not sure what it is about Sam's Club, you can go in with a list with 3 items and come out with 23! We made a few more stops to pick up miscellaneous items and headed back "home". Dharma tagged along on her bed in the back seat of the truck and snoozed pretty much both ways. Ah, the life of a dog.
Riverside RV Resort is quite quiet so far this week and reservations are suppose to be up and down this month. Labor Day, of course, is suppose to be very busy. We are all trying to catch up on miscellaneous jobs that had to be put on the back burner when we were so busy. The boys are trimming trees and generally getting ready for fall - can you believe it - we are already thinking of fall and winter.
We will probably be heading back to Arizona around the middle of September. The truck needs emission testing for new tags by the end of September. I am hoping that we will see some of the leaves changing before we head out. We are starting to check on workamping jobs in Arizona for the fall/winter. We have been invited back here next year, but we have not made a commitment yet. Our main goal in retiring was to travel, and Bob would prefer to look and checking out another part of the country next summer. We'll see. A lot will depend on fuel prices next year.
