DAY 5 OF OUR ALASKAN ADVENTURES

First and foremost, I guess I'd better apologize for not writing the blog yesterday. What can I say, it was just one of those days. I went for my usual morning walk, but let me tell you, there is a hill that you climb from Kevin & Ramona's to the parking area near the gym where we are camped out in the 5th wheel that must have at least a 12 degree grade!!! I must have climbed that hill a minimum of 10 times yesterday. It is a good thing that I had all that hiking under my belt from Superstition Lookout, otherwise I would not have survived the day. It is a killer. The campus is all located on hills with lots of trees and plants. It us really a neat environment. The grandkiddos were in school yesterday, so I spent time trailing Ramona & Kevin around while Bob played on the computer. They have a ceremony here at Webb where the senior girls and boys each speak about their life experiences. Kevin was asked to speak /introduce one of the senior girls yesterday. The ceremony is held in the chapel and the parents of the individual graduating attend along with all the - in this case - female students (freshman thru seniors). Kevin gave a wonderful introductory speech. It was very impressive.
Since Webb is a private boarding/day school, they have an enormous dining hall, where the faculty and students are able to have breakfast, lunch and dinner. Let me tell you, they have no shortage of food here, what a spread at every meal. The meals are fantastic! I would be a blimp if I lived here all the time! The dining hall has flags hanging around the room. Each student brings one from his/her particular country/city when they start school. At one end of the dining hall, they have a large fireplace and lounge area where kids can hang out and relax. Every Thursday the male students are required to dress in suits for dinner and the female students are required to wear dresses, otherwise, it is very casual.
After Ramona and I picked the kiddos up from school, Julaiana and I went to a Badmitton match in the gym - this is very big in this area - and Kevin is coaching both the girls and boys teams. It is one fast sport when you watch it in person. Juliana and I could not keep track of scores, etc. We watched a baseball game for awhile and a swimming tournament. It seems like we were on the go all day.
Today was a little more layed back. It was catch up day. We did a little running around with Kevin and Ramona and I did a little laundry. The Quick Krew went into Newport to have dinner with friends and Bob and I hung out. I took a few pictures of the campus - which unfortunately do not give it justice. The track area is magnificent. I have been walking around it in the AM. I have to wait until the sun comes out to walk here because the coyotes use this area as a short cut into the mountains behind the school. I also took few pictures of the dorms, the planetarium and the Raymond Alf Museum of Paleontology that is on campus. The museum is open to the public and quite well known for it's discovery of fossil remains the California.
Today was a big day on campus for the Juniors/Seniors - prom day. They had rented a club in Hollywood and the kids were transported by bus to/from the event. This is a very safe campus and students are not allowed off campus during the week. They can go off campus on the week end, but they must sign out with their destination and must be back on campus by 11pm.

Well I guess that is about it for today. Tomorrow we are going to the beach because it is suppose to be close to here. Kevin has dorm duty Sunday evenings from 7pm - midnight. The faculty rotates monitoring the dorms every night.
