DAY 3 OF OUR ALASKAN ADVENTURES

We left Quartzsite yesterday about 8:15 AM. You won't believe it but since we were parked off a freeway access road, Judy decided she wanted to try to drive the truck and the 5th wheel. So after we got hooked up, she got behind the wheel and drove about 5 miles on the access road back to the freeway. We didn't go very fast but she did great. I'm proud of her. She just took her time and got the feel of it. Now, all I have to do is get her out on the highway and try it and I'm sure as soon as she does it once or twice, she'll do just fine. I sure don't want to have to drive all the way to Alaska myself if I can help it. After she got back to the freeway, we got on I-10 and drove West to I-210 to Kevin and Romana's at the Webb School in Claremont, CA. We got there about 2:00 PM after driving 225 miles. We parked on the basketball court by the gym and will be here until next Monday.
We never knew it until the last time we came here that around Thousand Palms, CA there are thousands of wind generators because the wind seems to blow there all the time. They generate a lot of electricity with the wind. You can't really appreciate the size of these things until your up close to them. I wish we could add a small wind generator of about 400-500 watts to supplement our solar system and then we could camp off grid more without running the generator. We'll be dry camping in the parking lot at the gym but since we can't get any TV, we probably won't use too much battery power, mostly just to run lights, heat drinks, and run the computer. It is sure cold here. I thought this was sunny Southern California? Maybe Arnold didn't pay the electric bill this month.
