We took a few days and drove back down to Orleans, Mass. on Tuesday to visit my brother and his family. David had been in the hospital the week before with a collapsed lung on one side and blood in the opposite lung. It seems like it is one thing after another with him, and despite the frequent set backs, he is very optimistic. He was feeling much better and his breathing - labored with any exertion - was better than it had been previously. We spent three days with them on Cape Cod and had a wonderful visit. We spent hours reliving childhood experiences and trying to remember relatives that we have not seen in years. David took me on a little driving tour one afternoon on the way to pick up some fresh fish for dinner. He showed me some of his favorite areas around their home. Both the Atlantic Ocean and Orleans Inlet are within walking distance of their home - can't imagine anything better. He loves to bring one of his grandsons to this sandy beach on the inlet side where there is a boat house close to the water.

The water is shallow enough for Aiden to play safely and look for shells and rocks - finding rocks are his favorite thing right now. This boat house was on the property of a huge summer home. Personally, I would be just as happy with this "smaller" summer home right on the beach itself. What a view and can you imagine being able to wander the beach right in front of your place! Heaven.
We hated to leave the wonderful clear sunny days and head back to Fort Edward, and the rain, humidity and bugs, but all good things must come to an end. We did manage to have our favorite clam chowder while we were there - this little tiny place makes the best clam chowder. We had an uneventful drive back here on Friday, arriving in the late afternoon. It was good to be back "home" to our own bed.
