A BREAK BETWEEN STORMS

Sunshine this morning with a low of 49 degrees. Quite a change from the last few days when we were complaining about the hot, humid, sticky air at night. We just can't hit a happy medium yet. The weekend brought thunder/lightening, rain and even tornado warnings here in this area. Yard work was put on hold and outdoor activities came to a halt. Michelle had been invited to spend the weekend sailing with friends on their sail boat at Lake Champlain. Heavy winds and rain kept them docked and unable to sail, but they had fun wandering around Burlington, Vermont. I ventured outdoors Sunday morning to play ball with Possum - that dog needs some sheep to chase!! I'm sure she would fetch all day, given the chance, but I wasn't too keen about playing ball in the rain. After putting her inside, I tried to take a few pictures around the yard until the light rain turned into a steady rain and I headed inside also. Robert had been working on pulling a cable line from the house to the 5th wheel and after a few frustrations he managed to get it hooked up and working. You can watch only so much Mayberry, RFD and The Rifleman before going crazy.
We were getting cabin fever in the afternoon and decided to venture out for a little ride. We headed over the Luzerne Mountain Road to Lake Luzerne. I love that road. We use to drive it back and forth to work when we were living in Lake Luzerne and working in Glens Falls. It is a windy, somewhat steep, tree lined road - perfect for a sports car or motorcycle. Not particularly great in the winter, but pretty in the summer and fall. Lake Luzerne is a small town in the Adirondacks but, like all areas it has been hit hard by the economy. Monday starts Americade week in Lake George and the motels, hotels, and B&B's are usually brimming with motorcycle enthusiasts in Lake Luzerne and the little communities around Lake George. Not as of today. We did not see any signs of tourists in the area. We did notice that one of of the major attractions in Lake Luzerne had a for sale sign on it. Papa's Ice Cream Parlor has been a huge tourist attraction for years. It has even been written up in some of the major magazines as a place to visit in the area. It is on the bank of the Hudson River and had great ice cream and salads as well as a great view of the river. I'm sure that it will be a great loss to the community. After driving around a little - checking out changes - we headed back to Fort Edward in the late afternoon - no more rain, just cloudy and a little cool.
