We Finally Made It

It took a little longer than planned, but we finally arrived at Stewart, British Columbia. We pulled into Bear River RV Park around 1:30pm in pouring rain, but thrilled to be here. Our original thought was to arrive early enough to tour Salmon Glacier in Stewart, BC and the Fish Creek Wild Life Viewing Area in Hyder, Ak today and be on the road again tomorrow for Prince George. However, it was raining cats and dogs when we arrive at the RV Park. The gentleman who owns the RV Park said that it had only rained about 2 weeks total this summer. Leave it to us to hit here on one of the rare rainy days. If it were just a sprinkle or a gentle rain we would venture out to see the sights, however, we are having a heavy down pour this afternoon. Since we have come so far, we decided to hibernate in the 5th wheel today and stay warm and comfortable. We will spend an additional day here in hopes that we will have better weather tomorrow for touring. Highway 37A junctions with the Cassiar Highway and heads west to Stewart, BC and Hyder, Ak on a paved highway that winds between the towering peaks of the Coast (Glaciated) Mountain Range. The highest peak in this range is around 5,700 feet and Stewart is at sea level. We were overwhelmed with the height of the mountains as we came through the the narrow gorge, called Bear Pass, toward Stewart and Hyder. It was impossible, with our little camera, to give justice to the mountains that seem to reach up forever above the road. There are so many waterfalls coursing down the surface running into numerous creeks that eventually run into the Bear River. There are suppose to be over 20 glacier formations overlooking the highway and we only saw a few because of the low cloud cover and rain. Bear Glacier was one of the bigger ones that we were able to see from the road. It was raining and there was a low cloud layer toward the top, but it was still spectacular. We are looking forward to taking a driving tour tomorrow that includes Stewart, Hyder, Salmon Glacier, Fish Creek Wildlife Viewing Area and 10 other attractions. Lets hope the weather cooperates. Tonight, we will be happy to stay warm and dry and watch out the windows of the 5th wheel for bear, that the owner of the RV park said frequent the park. I hope they don't mind coming out in the rain. Oh, update, we have not seen any sign of our little "hitchhiker" since we put out the traps. We are just hoping that he decided that the ride was too bumpy and uncomfortable for him in the 5th wheel and he decided to bale out when we were stopped. I'm not sure I want to think of the other alternative!
