Here We Go Again

We had not originally planned on leaving today, however, Gary suggested we take off early because the weather forecast for the Denali National Park area was for sun today and possibly tomorrow. It is not often that Mt McKinley and the other mountains are visible because of the weather conditions. Bob had called our mail service to have our mail forwarded to us - priority mail - last week. Yesterday was day 7 and it still had not arrived, so we needed to stick around until we at least got our mail. It is usually in the boxes at the post office in Moose Pass by 10:30am, so to make a long story short he was going to check at 10:30 and if it had finally arrived, we would leave a day early. We were pretty well packed, as much as you can in advance, and I headed over to clean Stellar Jay while we were waiting for the magic time of 10:30 to roll around. I was just finishing up at Stellar Jay, when he called me on the walki-talki to tell me that the mail was in and we were good to go. I finished up getting everything settled inside, while Bob worked on the outside and we were hooked up and ready to go by 12:56pm. We bid our little parking spot in the trees good by and headed down the hill to the Seward Highway. I have to admit that I will miss the trees and the seclusion of our little spot. The sun was out, it was in the 50's and it looked like a perfect day to travel. We took a few pictures of the Birch and Aspen trees changing color on our way down to Anchorage. The pictures do not give justice to the vibrant yellow color of the leaves with the sun shinning on them. We had to meet Gary in the Wal Mart parking lot in Anchorage to return his company cell phone and a few other things. We had been asking he and his wife, Treva, to send us a picture of them for our blog, but they kept forgetting or coming up with excuses. So, we made Gary stand in the parking lot so that Bob could take his picture. Unfortunately, Treva was at work and missed the photo op. After saying good by to a really good boss and friend, we left the parking lot and headed north to Wasilla. We had planned on stopping at a good old Wal Mart Supercenter - the first one we have seen since we have been in Alaska - for a few staples and then heading to Willow to camp for the night. As luck would have it, the check engine light came on as we were heading out of Wasilla and after our problems in Whitehorse, The Yukon, we decided we had better stay over and try to find a Ford Dealership in the morning. By now, of course, it was after 6pm and nothing was open. So here we are, our first day on the road in an RV Park in Wasilla - not one I would highly recommend(definitely not a 5 star resort) - waiting to see what we are up against with the truck tomorrow morning. Needless to say, Bob is quite frustrated. It is definitely not a good start. Maybe we were meant to stay in Moose Pass!
