Brrrr.......

For those of you who are in the sunshine and warm climates, this is a reminder of the reality in other parts of the country. We woke up to a balmy 37.4 degrees in Moose Pass this morning and 53 in the 5th wheel. Needless to say, it was a little difficult to crawl out from under the nice warm down comforter and have my feet hit that cold floor. We are predicted to have partly cloudy skies and just a slight chance of rain with the high of 62 degrees today. It should be a very pleasant fall day. The leaves are changing color on a daily basis. The nights are getting longer and it is actually dark from about 1030pm until 630am or there about. I took a picture the other morning to show that we are no longer light 24/7. It is a little difficult to see, but this is looking from the 5th wheel toward the garden at Wild Rose and Solars Mountain in the distance. We headed into Anchorage early Wednesday morning to have new tires put on the truck for the trip back to "the outside". Anchorage is approximately two hours north of Spruce Moose and we had rain all the way in. We got the tires on, did a little shopping at Fred Meyers, met Gary in the parking lot there and picked up muffins for the chalets, and headed back in the afternoon. The tide was out in the Turnagain Arm and the clouds were hovering over the mountains. We stopped at one of the pull outs to take some pictures and learn a little about the Bore Tides, the history of tides and the mudflats that occur in the Turnagain Arm with the incoming tides. When the tide is out, it looks like it would be fun to walk out on the sand, however, this silt is very dangerous and not like normal beach sand. There is an area on the Turnagain Arm where you can stop and watch for Beluga whales, but we did not see any that day. We have decided that if we want to see moose, bear and other wild life, we will have to stop at the Alaska Wildlife Refuge Center on our way out of here. We have just not had any luck seeing wild life along the road in the four months that we have been here. We are trying to get some last minute chores done at the chalets before we leave and time is running short. I have been busy doing "fall" cleaning in both chalets. I finally got that done. Thursday, I finished up staining and polyurethaning the skin for one of the sides of a cabinet we hung in the kitchen at Stellar Jay earlier this summer. Now we just need to take the cabinet down attach it and rehang the cabinet. Since we have a group checking into Stellar Jay Friday, that may have to wait until they leave. Bob worked on replacing a patch on the vinyl in one of the bathrooms. Yesterday was a beautiful day. We had sun, no rain and I worked in the gardens for a short time and decided to take a break and sit and enjoy the sunshine. It was a tad windy and there was a "snow storm" of Fireweed pollen from the Fireweed next to the 5th wheel. If all of those seeds take, there will be millions of new plants popping up next year.
