Things were very busy this last weekend. The campground was about 80% full for the last big camping weekend of this season. Wouldn’t you know it, it rained all weekend. We got so much rain that the Animas River was running almost as fast as it was when we arrived here in June. It was very muddy from mountain runoff and back to a bank to bank flow. Today it's receded some and cleared up a lot.

There are 19 rental cabins here and Monday we had 15 of them to clean that people had checked out of. I think the previous high in one day was 11. That’s on top of 4 bathrooms. Fortunately, we only had 2 rented for checkin Monday so we were able to put some off until Tuesday. We are off on Tuesday’s and since they are short handed now, we got to clean them Wednesday. We still have some for Thursday to do. One of the young guys working here hurt his back digging a trench with a shovel and had to go to the hospital last night. Turns out, he has a slipped disk so they put him on muscle relaxants and pain killers and sent him home. Not good when now's the time all the heavy lifting starts.

There was a camper here over Labor Day Weekend who had a 3 year old Great Dane named Sarah. She and Dharma got along real good. Dharma even tried to run and play with her until Dharma fell down turning and then she just sits down and ends the game. Old age is starting to creep up on the old girl and we are not looking forward to what is coming. She has been part of our family for 8 years and that day will be extremely difficult. She is on three different medications for her arthritis, 1 for pain and 2 for swelling. She has good days and bad. Hopefully more good than bad for a long time. It looks like we will be here until the end of September. There is a lot of work to do after the campground closes to get ready for Winter in the Colorado Rockies. The weather has started to cool down into the 70’s during the day and the 40’s at night. We are having to run our heat more in the mornings. We hope the leaves will start to change colors before we leave. We have been putting off the ride on the to Silverton narrow gauge railroad hoping we can see that happen. But with only about 3 more weeks here, we better pick a day to do the ride. Yesterday afternoon we took a ride to Pagosa Springs. Everyone has been telling we just had to go there and see it. Boy, what a disappointment. It was like going to Purgatory. Nothing like what we expected after hearing all about both of them over the years. We did not even take any pictures. The only interesting thing there was a little park where Dharma got out of the truck, stretched and laid down in the grass for awhile. But at least now we can say we have been there.
