This has been a relatively quiet week at Durango Riverside Resort. School is back in session in Colorado, so there have been fewer people registered and those that have been registered are older travelers in motor homes or trailers without young children. It has been a nice break before the last big holiday weekend. We have all been trying to catch up with projects that we did not have time to finish previously. Bob and I have been helping another couple refurbish some of the picnic tables around the sites. Bob has been power washing and sanding and I have been painting. Everyone has been working to get the facility ready for winter! I can't believe we are already thinking of winter, however, they had snow between Silverton and Ouray a few days ago and they are only about 50 to 60 miles north of us. Can you believe it!!! We have been having very unsettled weather here - lots of thunder, lightening and dark, dark clouds rolling over the mountains every afternoon. It prevented us from doing any exploring on Monday and Tuesday when we were off. The temperature on Monday afternoon dropped 20 degrees in an hour and the sky was so dark and the clouds were very eerie. Ronnie, one of the workampers from Texas, and I were keeping an eye on the sky because he said it looked like tornado clouds. The tornado did not materialize, but that was the day that it snowed in the mountains north of us.

We have been picking apricots almost every day here at the campground. There are 3 or 4 trees that have been just full. They are small but very sweet and very juicey. Carol, one of the other workampers, has been baking pies for all of us. She has been spoiling us and boy have they been delicious!

We have not been bothered by bears for quite awhile, however, when Dharma and I went for our walk yesterday morning they had managed to get into one of the dumpsters and had dragged bags of trash out all over the ground. Eric and Jamie, the managers, saw a bear when they took their dogs out for a walk last evening. Eric thinks that the snow up north may be driving them back down south again. We are seeing lots of squirrels running around from cabin to cabin - we assume storing food for the winter under the cabins. This is not a good sign!! Before we know it the leaves will be changing and our adventure here will be coming to an end.
