THREE DAYS of SUN

We've had three days of sun in a row and yesterday we even worked outside in shorts and short sleeved shirts. The temperature got up to 75. Maybe Summer doesn't really come to Alaska until July. It sure has been a nice change from the constant clouds and frequent rains. It gave us some time to catch up on outside chores we have been putting off until the rain stopped. Judy has been busy in the flower gardens doing the weeding that the rain was driving out of control. We took a drive to Seward to see if we could pick up a few things we were getting short on to save Gary or his Dad a trip down here from Anchorage but didn't have much luck. We needed some chemicals for the hot tubs but I guess there not much in demand there because nobody had what we needed so we'll have to wait until they come from "The Big City". I also needed a new pair of reading glasses to replace ones that I some how managed to break. While in Seward, we tried to make contact with John Bird, a gentleman who is working in Seward and we met at Whitehorse Ford in Whitehorse, YT when we both were having truck troubles. He wasn't home so we left a note for him and he called later and we'll try to touch base with him next time we're in Seward.
The days seem to be getting a little shorter because it seems darker in the morning when we get up. It doesn't appear to be getting darker any sooner as these pictures taken with no flash show - one from 6/30 at 10:30PM and the other from 7/1 at 10:00 PM. Our friends, the Raven family, who were born in a tree next to where we're parked shortly before we got here and we watched grow up and finally leave home (the nest), have been hanging around the area since they left and we hear them squawking every day. Today three of them have been hanging around the driveway of Wild Rose. It's amazing when you see them up close, how big they've grown in just a couple of months. Every so often we'll see one of them chasing a Bald Eagle out over the lake, probably a dispute over food. You'd think they'd be afraid of an Eagle but they don't seem to be. They don't even seem to be afraid of us being out around them.
The reservations at the Chalets are slowing down a little and after the 4th of July, they'll both be empty for a week so anyone who wants a vacation in Alaska, I know where there is a great place to stay with SUPER care takers!!!
