ANOTHER DAY ON THE ROAD

We didn't have Internet access yesterday so we couldn't post anything. We drove from Blackwell, OK to Santa Rosa, NM yesterday where we spent the night in a huge TA Truck stop lot. The paved part of the lot was pretty full and the spaces that were left were to narrow for us to get out our Bedroom and Dining room slides so we took a chance that it wouldn't rain and parked in their dirt overflow lot. We were the only ones there and were able to dodge all the mud holes left from recent rains and find a level spot to open up our slides. During the evening and night, more truckers and RV'ers pulled in around us. That made a challenge of getting out in the morning. The drive across Oklahoma and Texas and upper New Mexico has to be about the most boring scenery in the US. Miles and miles of sagebrush and a few cows mixed in. You can only count so many cows before it gets old.
Since we gain an hour in time as we drive West and cross from one time zone to another, we were able to get a little earlier start this morning. We knew we had too far left to go to get home in one day but hoped an early start today would give us an easy finishing day on Wednesday.
We took this picture to the right of a roadside tourist trap as we crossed the border on I-40 into Arizona to show all our relatives in Wisconsin what they have to look forward to when and if they ever visit the Wild West. These things line the highway from Gallup, NM to Holbrook, AZ. We were almost to Payson, AZ, about 90 miles NE of Phoenix when  it started to pour down rain and the wind was blowing hard. We decided after about 11 hours on the road to call it quits for the day and to stop at the Mazatzal Casino for the night. We expected to be blessed with the Arizona sunshine when we hit the border.  Instead, here we sit in the 5th wheel - in the casino parking lot - listening to the rain pelt the roof and the thunder and lightening surrounding us.  What a home coming! Tomorrow will be an easy run to the "Valley of the Sun" from here.
